The West’s Most Iconic Wild Horse Herds are in Peril!
The Kiger and Riddle wild horse herds are in imminent danger. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to gather and sterilize these genetically significant horses, risking their extinction.
Wild horses are unfairly blamed for land degradation. At the same time, cattle often outnumber them 300:1. We urgently need your support to challenge the BLM’s actions, halt these gathers, and protect these irreplaceable herds. Your contribution is crucial in this fight.
Your donation will help us uphold the Wild and Free-Roaming Horse and Burros Act and ensure these herds continue to thrive. We made our initial goal of $25,000 to file the case with our great attorneys at Greenfire Law. We now need to raise the remaining $50,000 to complete this case.
This case cannot fail. The BLM failed to do any rangeland assessments yet claims the horses damaged the land. The BLM failed to consider how their plans would damage the unique genetics of the Kiger herd. These Kiger horses are known to breeders around the world. They are highly sought after. The Kiger horse also inspired the Disney movie "Spirit." BLM plans to reduce the herd (kept in 2 separate areas) to only 84 horses, and the mares would be treated with a vaccine that leaves most mares sterile. If we can't stop this BLM plan, it will be the end of the wild Kiger horses.
Donate now to support the Oregon Wild Horse Organization, Western Watersheds Project, and Wild Horse and Burro Fund's Kiger/Riddle legal defense fund. Please say you want your donation earmarked for the Kiger case. Your contribution is crucial and deeply appreciated!
